My First International Trip
For the sake of this blog, I have to talk about equal parts traveling and cocktails. So, cheers to this being my first post about traveling. I knew I always wanted to travel and see different parts of the world since I was younger. I think going back and forth from Kansas City to Chicago, to Texas, to Minnesota -- the thrill of going somewhere else always excited me. What excited me most was THE FOOD! Trying something outside of Kansas City was always a joy for me. In Chicago, I would always beg my uncle to take me to a new pizza spot, he was a foodie himself. Trying new restaurants sparked so much excitement inside me, I knew traveling the world would be something I would do when I got older.
My first trip overseas was to Rome, Italy. My great-great Uncle, Bob Curtis, started an Afro-ballet school and passed away many years later. My mother and I were asked to come and dance in his honor. Can you imagine the honor? I was 14 years old, packing my bags, and headed to dance in Rome, Italy -- a dream! As you can imagine, I indulged in pizza, pasta, and yes, a little wine (it was legal over there). As soon as our feet got off the plane, I knew traveling was going to be a part of my life for the rest of time. This trip sparked my interest to travel abroad in college and dedicate one trip out of the country once a year.
I hope this post encourages you to get out there and see the world. If you do, comment and let me know where you go!
